Synopsis

A young, headstrong and fiery Anglo-American journalist, Rebecca Wild, meets James Emerson, a researcher obsessed with Earth’s ancient energy lines.

Their journey starts with coincidences and ends in a global reckoning.

STRUCTURE

ACT I:
THE CHASE BEGINS

Rebecca, a young fiery journalist, pursues an interesting story about a researcher, James, who believes he has uncovered some unusual anomolies while investigating ancient sites. But what began as an interesting story turns into a race for her life.

From an ancient stone circle in Cornwall to Glasonbury Tor. From a synchrotron in Harwell to a lab where the human genome was mapped. Rebecca and James are pursued by agents and forces unknown.

ACT II:
LIFTING THE VEIL

Back in London, Rebecca discovers her editor has been critically injured in a suspicious hit-and-run.

Rebecca and James are soon summoned to a meeting by a powerful media magnate (her ultimate boss who owns the newspaper among many others) who unmasks the forces chasing them, and the agenda they serve.

But the real turning point comes when they meet a reclusive spiritual leader whose outlandish claims may be more truth than madness.

ACT III:
A SACRIFICE, OR NEW BEGINNING?

In a chapel filled with relics and riddles, a warning is spoken: They are coming.

Compelled by something older than reason, Rebecca journeys to Helgoland, a node of convergence.

There, beneath a darkening sky, light finds her. She ascends… then vanishes. Is it an ending, or the beginning of something else? The lines have shifted, and they may yet return her.

This dual upbringing sharpened her sense of observation and gave her a nuanced perspective on global affairs.

Driven by curiosity and a deep instinct for uncovering hidden truths, Rebecca doesn’t back down easily, even when the trail turns dangerous. What begins as a pursuit of a minor story leads her into a world of secret networks, ancient energies, and modern conspiracies. As events unfold, it becomes clear she’s not just chasing a story – she’s part of one.

JAMES EMERSON

James Emerson is a quietly obsessive Oxford-educated polymath with degrees in both earth sciences and history and has a fascination for what lies beneath the surface, both literally and metaphorically. Left-handed and a little neurodivergent, James sees patterns where others see chaos. He’s a walker, a deep listener, and a believer in landscapes as repositories of memory: a modern-day psychogeographer chasing echoes through time.

Dismissed as eccentric by some, James is driven by curiosity, not fame. But when his private research into the so-called “St Michael Line” uncovers alignments between ancient sites and modern institutions, he finds himself drawn into a global conspiracy.

LINUS WOLF

An eccentric spiritual leader with a New Age cult following. Linus believes in extraterrestrial contact and the ancient power of ley lines. He’s dismissed by many as a fringe figure until his prophecies start coming true.

Linus and Stephen Prothoroe went to school together and share an interest in earth mysteries. Both were brilliant entreprenuers but having made his millions Linus chose to a different path from Stephen, despite the shared interest in earth mysteries.

SUPPORTING CHARACTERS

Sir Stephen Protheroe

A billionaire media mogul who appears to embody the establishment, but behind the scenes, he’s playing a far more dangerous game. Quietly subversive, He has spent years investigating the lines in secret.

Marcus

Known only as Marcus, he is stoic and enigmatic, and is Linus’s fiercely loyal right hand. Misjudged as a threat early on, he later proves to be a quiet protector with hidden depths and a past tied to the unfolding mystery.

Professor Martin Gaborik

Professor Martin Gaborik was James professor at Oxford University. He consider James his star pupil and introduced him to the St Michael ley line in the first place. He has been associated with certain government research labs.

TONE & GENRE

The Lines is a high-concept conspiracy thriller infused with metaphysical mystery, grounded science and science fiction. Rooted in real-world locations, historical intrigue, and emerging scientific anomalies, the tone is taut, cerebral, and emotionally charged.

CORRIDORS OF INFLUENCE

There is an incorrect assumption that ley lines have a very narrow width, and so critics and neighsayers will say “but the landmark doesn’t actually sit right on the line”. But in fact, the lines create a corridor of influence approximately seven miles in width and in the case of the St. Michael and St Mary lines this is more exaggerated because they weave in and out like the double helix of DNA. And on this point, don’t you think it’s interesting, that fifty percent of the mapping of the human genome was carried out in a building that falls on the lines?
